Andrew Edis is a leading silk specialising in civil litigation, criminal law, proceeds of crime, chancery & commercial and public law.

Andrew acts for applicants and respondents in Public Law advising local authorities and other public bodies as well as acting for individuals who wish to challenge decisions of these bodies in the Courts.

Andrew's principle areas of practice include Public Law, and public law challenges connected with criminal and disciplinary proceedings.  He advises and represents Local Authorities and chief Constable on a regular basis.  He has a specific interest and experience in the law of tort involving public authorities and in civil actions involving allegations of misfeasance and negligence by public bodies.  with an in-depth understanding of the law of tort, of civil litigation and public law he brings a comprehensive understanding of the multiple aspects which need to be considered in complex cases.

Andrew is widely recognised as an expert in the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Convention and its impact on decision making bodies, having conducted one of the early Article 6 cases in the House of Lords 9Arthur JS Hall v. Simons) and having conducted terrorism cases on behalf of the Crown regularly for the past three years.

Andrew has a long-standing experience of Judicial Review having conducted such proceedings regularly throughout his career.  Judicial Review cases of note include Hackney Carriage Licensing, Care Homes, and Production Orders under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Andrew played a leading part in the campaign to have the Administrative Court operate outside London and made more accessible to applicants in the North West and Wales.  he also initiated closer links between Chambers and Liverpool University which resulted in the intensive update course on Judicial Review at Atlantic Chambers led by Brian Thompson of Liverpool University Law School.
