James Patience has experience in criminal and civil matters and strong academic credentials with regard to Judicial Review.  He hopes to build on this strength with the planned opening of the regional Administrative Court in Manchester in 2009.

James' main civil experience includes Personal Injury and Contractual cases.  His criminal experience includes prosecuting and defending in a broad range of cases before the Magistrates and Crown Courts including appeals.

James has begun to develop his experience of appeals appearing before the Housing Benefit and Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Tribunals.  Before the housing benefit appeal tribunal he successfully argued that a decision to withhold housing benefit went against the intention of statute.

James studied Judicial Review as a specialist area on the Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School where he achieved first class examination results.  He was also a finalist in the Nottingham Law School Judicial Review mooting competition.  James also attended the 2008 course on Judicial Review provided by Brian Thompson of Liverpool University Law School for Atlantic Chambers in preparation for the opening of the new Administrative Court.
