John Benson QC

John Benson specialises in Civil Litigation, Employment/Industrial Relations, Serious Crime, Proceeds of Crime and Public Law.

John acts for applicants and respondents in Public Law and has a strong practice in Judicial Review ((especially in relation to decisions by Local Authorities concerning the welfare of children in care, housing and welfare matters) as well as acting for individuals/public bodies who wish to challenge/uphold the decisions of Local Authorities and the Courts.  Other Judicial Review cases of note include the termination of a police constable's office by a Chief Constable and decisions of lower courts in the criminal and licensing jurisdictions.  

In 2008 John gave a CPD accredited overview of Judicial Review practice and procedure within Chambers for Barristers and Solicitors and has himself attended the intensive update course on Judicial Review led by Brian Thompson of Liverpool University Law School for Atlantic Chambers in preparation for the new Administrative Court opening in Manchester in 2009.

John is particularly interested in extending his Judicial Review practice into the area of competitive sport and entertainment (e.g. licensing./gaming).
