Establishing an Administrative Court in the North West

Atlantic Chambers supports the establishment of the Administrative Court in the North West

Atlantic Chambers has been at the forefront of attempts by legal practitioners in the North West to make the case for the establishment of the Administrative Court in the region.  Members, including Andrew Edis QCJohn Benson QCScott DonovanGareth Thomas and Hugh Derbyshire,  have been actively involved in gathering information and drafting a working paper in support of the proposal.  The benefits of the proposal for users of the Administrative Court are compelling and significant and have gained widespread support from legal professionals.

Members of Atlantic Chambers already have experience of acting in administrative law related matters.  Recently John Benson QC and Gwynneth Knowles acted on behalf of a young person seeking judicial review of a local authority's decision to withdraw funding from a health/social services therapeutic fostering project.  The matter was resolved in favour of the claimant and the project continues to support young people with mental health problems.  Charles Prior is another member of Atlantic Chambers who regularly undertakes administrative law work, he has recently acted for Merseyside local authorities in education and social services related judicial reviews.
