General Profile

John has extensive experience both in the preparation and presentation of difficult and substantial actions.  This includes the analysis and assessment of expert evidence.  He is used to dealing with clients in difficult and stressful circumstances.

John has given talks on various topics including system neglect; expert evidence; special damages; and the future of medical regulation.

John is a member of the Civil Group; the Clinical Negligence Group; and the Public Law Group.

  • Veterinary negligence acting for veterinary surgeons.  John has argued Bolam and Bolitho in the context of veterinary  negligence before the Court of Appeal (Calver v Westwood)

Regulatory work

Police Misconduct Proceedings

John has acted for the Merseyside and North Wales Police in misconduct cases against officers.  This work includes careful advice, preparation and presentation.  John has also appeared for the police before the Police Appeals Tribunal.

Disciplinary Proceedings before Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

John acts for veterinary surgeons before the Disciplinary Committee.  This work requires careful advice and preparation and, when necessary advice on appeal to the Privy Council.

Health & Safety

John has represented companies in proceedings brought against them by the Health & Safety Executive. He represented the company in R v P & O Ferries (Irish Sea) Ltd, before the Court of Appeal, a case involving a fatal accident.

Licensing

John has experience in dealing wtih Liquor and Betting Shop licensing.
