Sophie specialises in family and criminal law and has considerable advocacy experience, enjoying many years of practice in both jurisdictions.
As a Grade 3 Prosecutor and member of the Specialist Rape Panel she deals with serious criminal offences including serious sexual offences. This experience is of benefit to her family practice when dealing with issues of a similar nature, particularly finding of fact hearings in respect of serious allegations of sexual abuse and non-accidental injury cases.
Sophie also has experience of representing patients at Mental Health Review Tribunals, including dealing with restricted cases. This experience is often invaluable when dealing sensitively with vulnerable parties within family and criminal proceedings.
Sophie is trained to undertake direct access work and appears on the Bar Council register of direct access pratitioners.
Sophie deals with all aspects of Public and Private Child Law work. She regularly appears on behalf of parents, guardians, intervenors and other family members at all levels of the family court. Sophie is experienced in representing adults with a mental illness, learning disabilities or other vulnerabilities.
In Public Law work Sophie is regularly instructed in all aspects of care work, dealing with cases concerning adoption, special guardianship and allegations of serious harm and neglect. Sophie has a praticular interest in finding of fact hearings with an emphasis on those involving allegations of serious criminal offences and non-accidental injury.
In Private Law work Sophie is regularly instructed on behalf of parents, extended family members and guardians. Sophie deals with the full range of applications, including residence, contact, prohibited steps and removal from the jurisdiction. Sophie also deals with cases concerning domestic violence including injunctive relief.
Sophie deals with all aspects of Criminal Law and is instructed on behalf of the Prosecution and Defence. Sophie has considerable experience in the Crown Court and has also appeared in the Court of Appeal. She has dealt with numerous cases involving the sensitive handling of child witnesses and vulnerable adults.
Sophie is a Category 3 Prosecutor on the Crown Prosecution Service Panel of Approved Prosecutors and also on the Panel of advocates approved to prosecute rape and other serious sexual offence cases.
Sophie has acted for defendants charged with rape and other serious sexual offences including historic cases as well as drug offences, dishonesty offences, public order offences and serious offences of violence. Sophie has experience in acting on behalf of young defendants.
