Two members successfully complete mediation training31/07/13
Monika Bar and Daian Sumner, both of Chambers' Chancery and Commercial practice group, have recently completed the InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) civil and commercial training with the ADR Group.
Based in Chicago, INADR is renowned for its effective practice in the promotion of dispute resolution and aims to promote mediation on an international scale and has endorsed the UK's ADR Group's (Alternative Dispute Resolution) civil & commercial mediator training programme.
This endorsement means both Atlantic Chambers' barristers have satisfied the training requirements currently in place in most court mediation programmes in the USA.
Monika and Daian's success brings the total of qualified mediators at Atlantic Chambers to four, also including Scott Donovan and Simon Booth.
Monika, who also passed her Canadian bar exams last year, said: "The training will open up new markets for us to pursue, especially as Chambers is now offering Fixed Fee Mediation services, which we offer as mediators not barristers,
Daian added: "Following the Jackson reforms, the courts are increasingly advocating mediation because they are so inundated with cases. Mediation offers a more efficient way of resolving disputes, especially if it is a dispute over small sums of money. Mediation means savings for both parties in dispute."
